Seoul Hanok Cafe Guide: Visiting Cafe Onion Anguk

ソウル カフェ onion 安国

About ten years ago, a visit to the Seongsu branch of Cafe Onion with family created fond memories, despite how crowded it was with international visitors. On a recent rainy day, the desire to revisit this brand led to the Anguk location instead. To avoid the heavy weekend crowds, visiting right at opening time on a weekday was the ideal choice.

Cafe Onion Anguk operating hours are Monday through Friday from 07:00 to 22:00 (last order at 21:30), and Saturday through Sunday from 09:00 to 22:00 (last order at 21:30). Because the cafe does not have its own parking lot, visitors bringing vehicles must use nearby public parking spaces. Public transit is highly recommended, as the cafe is located immediately outside Exit 3 of Anguk Station. Situated near Bukchon Hanok Village, it serves as a wonderful destination for anyone searching for an authentic Seoul Hanok Cafe experience on a rainy morning.

Location and Arrival at Cafe Onion Anguk

The entrance to Cafe Onion Anguk clearly retains the look and feel of a traditional Korean house. Guests walk through a charming entryway leading into the main courtyard area.

Outdoor seating is available along the courtyard, though most patrons opted to sit indoors due to the rainy weather.

During peak hours and sunny days, these outdoor spots likely fill up very quickly.

Clear signage marks the queue area, separating the line for takeout orders from the line for dine-in guests. Remarkably, even when arriving right at the 07:00 opening time, several international tourists were already waiting in line.

Menu Prices and Seating Options

Further inside, the historic tiled-roof hanok architecture comes into full view. The layout requires visitors to order coffee and baked goods in the main ordering hall before moving over to the adjacent hanok seating area.

The beverage prices at Cafe Onion Anguk are on the higher side. An iced Americano costs 8,000 KRW (about $6), while a caffe latte is priced at 9,000 KRW (about $6.70). The bakery menu features options such as the signature Pandoro for 6,000 KRW (about $4.50) and Ang Butter for 5,500 KRW (about $4.10). Visiting early in the morning guarantees access to a freshly baked selection. Ordering an iced Americano alongside the popular signature Pandoro provides a complete breakfast set.

Inside the dining halls, floor seating (jasik) options predominate, allowing guests to experience traditional floor-level dining.

Dine-in guests place their food and drinks on low vintage-style wooden tables.

While the floor seating provides a distinctive aesthetic atmosphere, sitting on the floor without back support can feel somewhat uncomfortable over an extended period. Nevertheless, sitting near the glass doors while watching the falling rain provides a tranquil environment. The Americano leans heavily toward a bright, acidic flavor profile, while the Pandoro is generously coated with sweet powdered sugar without any inner cream filling.

Overall Vibe at This Famous Seoul Hanok Cafe

Despite having no filled cream, the Pandoro dough itself is remarkably soft and moist, preventing it from feeling dry. The classic Korean architecture elevates the entire coffee experience. Resting quietly while gazing at the rain creates a peaceful, reflective mood before returning to daily work routines.

During weekday morning hours, the crowd consists almost entirely of international travelers, giving this popular Seoul Hanok Cafe a unique atmosphere reminiscent of traveling abroad.
