Seoul Sajik Park

Located in Jongno-gu, Seoul Sajik Park (사직공원(서울)) is one of the district's three most popular parks alongside Tapgol Park and Samcheong Park. Situated west of the Government Complex-Seoul on the southeastern foothills of Inwangsan Mountain, this expansive site measures 188,710 m².

Open to visitors of all ages, Seoul Sajik Park offers a quiet escape that combines deep historic heritage with convenient access to nearby nature walks.

History of Seoul Sajik Park

The history of the park dates back to 1395, when Taejo Yi Sung-gye established the Sajik Altar at its center. In the name, "Sa" refers to the deity of the earth, while "jik" refers to the deity of the five grains. During the Joseon period, regular rites wishing for a good harvest were conducted at this sacred altar.

The location was officially designated as a park on March 12, 1940, preserving its historical significance for future generations.

Park Features and Nearby Hiking Paths

Inside the park, visitors will find several playgrounds, statues of Sin Saimdang, Hwanghakjeong, and Yulgok Yi I, as well as the Municipal Children's Library. Dangun Shrine and Jongno Library are also located nearby.

For outdoor enthusiasts, following the path right next to the park for approximately 5 minutes provides easy access to the Inwangsan Mountain hiking trail.
